Hello, Neighbors! Special note from the Sauvie Island Volunteer Fire Department:

Please remember to look at the sign on the bridge- it still reads NO BURNING! Just because it is raining a little now does not make it safe to burn yet- the sun will come out in a day or so again and the fires have a way of staying ‘dormant’ for days (smoldering and trailing along unnoticed) and then ignite with great fury! It happens every year and it would be great if all people would pay attention this year to the sign or call the fire department if you are in doubt BEFORE lighting a fire.

Please do not risk burning your home or your neighbor’s by burning debris, brush, etc. at this time! This would be a good time to review with your family an action plan in case of fire. Check your smoke alarms, hoses, etc.

Thank you,
Lora Creswick

Hello, SI Neighbors.

Sauvie Island School is off to another great year. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful community school and support from our neighbors.

The students at Sauvie Island School are selling the local Portland Entertainment books for $20/book. If you frequently purchase an Entertainment book and would be interested in supporting our fundraising efforts, please consider one of the following choices:
1. Contact any student that you know or live near to order a book.
2. Stop by the school between 9 am and 3 pm to purchase a book.
3. Email me here and I will arrange a delivery to your home.

All proceeds will be used to purchase a document camera and projector for the 3rd/4th and 5th /6th grade rooms….technology that changes the way our teachers will present information. (very exciting)

If you have questions, please email them to me. If you wish to be removed from this email list, let me know.

Sincerely,
Kathy Stephenson

Serving the community since 1935! Rent our hall for non-alcoholic events.

The Grange is a family fraternal, community service organization with roots in agriculture. We promote a rural quality of life and encourage community activities through involvement. We are the voice of our community and country regarding education, agriculture and environment. Sauvie Island Grange has been active in island affairs since it was established in 1935. Our history includes helping the island get electricity, roads and telephones. Community involvement is important to us. You do not have to be a member of Grange for us to take up a cause that is of importance to the island.

Our charity starts on the island with support of our school and volunteer fire department. We provide dictionaries to all Sauvie Island School third graders very year. We donate clothing and toys to the Children’s Relief Nursery in St Johns and food and clothing to the Women’s Shelter in St Helens. We support national groups such as the American Red and the Salvation Army. We are most proud of our annual scholarship program. Since 1983, we annually award scholarships to islanders seeking to continue their education beyond secondary school. We publish a quarterly community calendar that goes out to all islanders and island telephone directory once every three years.

Grange members meet the second Monday of every month at 7:30 pm. The ladies of the Grange meet the third Wednesday of the month at 1:30 pm and you do not have to be a member of the Grange to attend the afternoon meetings. We host two open house meetings a year, in May to award our scholarships and a potluck dinner in October. If you would like an application for membership, please call 503-621-9604 or email btelectric@qwestoffice.net.

The Grange is available for rent for non-alcoholic events. This is a perfect place for uninterrupted meetings because cell phone service is limited. We are located at 14443 NW Charlton Road, just behind the Sauvie Island School. Please call Judy Bridge, 503-621-3620 for rates.
